The Exterior

Up front, the chrome geometric grille makes a bold statement. The full-width LED lighting bar with daytime running lights is mesmerizing. The hood lines are subtle but strong, and everything feels intentional.

On the sides, the two-tone Calligraphy wheels are gorgeous—fresh, modern, and totally different from anything else on the road. There is a lot of chrome happening (window trim, door handles, faux running boards), which works if you like a polished, upscale look. The beltline is dramatic... almost shelf-like, but honestly? I kind of like it.

First Row

I’m just going to say it—I’m obsessed. The Calligraphy interior feels shockingly luxurious for the price. Quilted, perforated leather seats, textured chrome accents, premium speaker grilles—it’s giving full luxury vibes. The digital instrument cluster is sleek and customizable, and when you use your turn signal, it actually displays your blind spot camera feed in the gauge cluster. That alone feels high-end.You also get:The infotainment screen is seamlessly integrated and incredibly user-friendly. Add in Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Hyundai’s signature features like:

  • Passenger Talk (front mic plays your voice through rear speakers)
  • Quiet Mode (mutes rear speakers when kids fall asleep)
  • Sounds of Nature (built-in sound machine—yes please)

It’s functional and fun, which is hard to nail.

  • Heads-up display (speed, navigation, calls—without taking your eyes off the road)
  • Adaptive cruise control with distance settings
  • Gorgeous steering wheel controls that are intuitive and easy to use

This “bridge-style” center console gives major minivan convenience—without driving a minivan.

Highlights:

  • Wireless charging + USB
  • Adjustable cup holders (I’ve personally fit four drinks here)
  • Hidden purse/phone grabber (elite mom feature)
  • Deep center console with USB + 12V outlet

Everything has a place, and that matters when you’re living the family life.

Second Row

Second-row highlights:

  • Ceiling vents (we love to see it)
  • Multiple cup holders (great for kids)
  • USBs on the sides of the seats
  • Rear climate controls

You can choose bench seating (8-passenger) or captain’s chairs (7-passenger). The bench is not three across compatible. So if you have three or more kids in carseats, I  wouldn't recommend the Hyundai Palisade, but there are plenty other mid size SUVs that would work for you! (VW Atlas, Chevy Traverse, etc.)

Another thing to note in the second row, the buckles are shallow and rigid which may make it difficult for booster age children to buckle. Scroll to the end to find our booster recommendations for the Palisade!

Car Seat Setup:

This is where things get tricky.

  • Second row: two lower anchors on outboard seats, three top tethers
  • Third row: one set of lower anchors, two top tethers—but placement makes it nearly impossible to use two seats back there at once

In real-world testing with rear- and forward-facing seats:

  • The third row is very difficult for large car seats
  • Seat belt overlap and narrow seating create safety concerns
  • Non-removable headrests complicate tethering
  • Best suited for boosters or older kids, not multiple bulky car seats

I successfully installed a forward-facing seat in the third row, which was encouraging. Rear-facing seats can work, but space is tight. This vehicle is:

  • Great for two car seats
  • Fine for older kids
  • Not ideal for three car seats, especially rear-facing

Third Row

Third row access is easy—especially with the child-friendly buttons that let seats fold forward without adult strength. I appreciate that detail a lot.

Once you’re back there:

  • Decent knee room
  • Ceiling vents (yes!)
  • Cup holders
  • No USBs on this trim (higher trims offer them)

Here’s the honest part: while Hyundai says there are three seats in the third row, that middle position is extremely narrow. I personally consider this a 7-passenger vehicle, not a true 8.

The third row is challenging for car seats because it's shallow which impacts the overhang of the car seat and leg room in any kid in a car seat or booster. Poorly placed LATCH allows for limited places to put car seats.

Trunk

With the third row up, space is tight—but there’s a hidden lower compartment that saved the day. I was able to fit my stroller by using that extra depth. It’s not minivan-level cargo, but it’s respectable for the class.

Safety

The 2022 Hyundai Palisade was awarded Top Safety Pick+ by the IIHS.

It comes standard with the Hyundai SmartSense suite, offering advanced driver-assistance features like Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, and Driver Attention Warning with higher trims adding Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist, Highway Drive Assist, and a Surround View Monitor for comprehensive safety, earning top ratings from safety organizations.

5+ years with our Palisade (limited trim with bench seat) and we still love it. The tech and interior features are great and feel more upscale than the price. I’m 5’10 and my husband is 6’4 and we both are comfortable in the driver and passenger seats, even with a rear facing car seat behind. A major criterion when we purchased was that my husband could sit comfortably in the second row behind a driver of his same height. The only reason I gave 4 starts for 2nd row comfort is it’s uncomfortable to sit in the middle bench seat between two car seats, and also can’t fit 3 across. Love our palisade and plan to drive it a long time!

The Palisade has been a great car for providing room for all passengers. The second and third row are all very spacious and love that there are multiple cup holders for all riders along with usb outlets and air vents. The trunk space can be limited if you do have larger items when the car is full, but I haven’t had any problems with our stroller or wagon in the back. I also love all of technology and safety features. I love my Palisade!

This is my daily driver and I have put over 20,000 miles on it in the first year of owning it. We have had no issues we have one rear facing child in a cybex Callisto g 360 and it has plenty of room and passenger that sits in front of the rear facing seat also still has plenty of room. The trunk space with the third row down is amazing but once the third row is up it does get a little tight but still manageable. We plan on keep this car for at least another 4-5 years and at that point transition more to a full size SUV but it’s perfect for the stage of life we are in now and over the next few years

I absolutely love this car! I was heavily influenced by Kelly to get this car and I have been nothing but happy with it from the accessibility for families, the comfort and technology. I highly recommend.

This car was the biggest bang for my buck when it comes to luxury features at an affordable price. I bought this car when I was pregnant with my third. I really did not want to drive a full size SUV so I looked for a car that would maximize space in the most compact way possible. I'm a sahm so my car mostly serves as school pickup/drop off so I really wanted something I didn't mind parking a lot and sitting in waiting to get the kids. I got the Calligraphy trim so it has all the super nice features that make me feel like I'm driving a much more expensive car. My car seat setup when I bought the car was: Infant seat behind the driver, rotating seat rear facing behind the passenger, and forward facing car seat in the driver side of the third row. That was when I had a 5/2/newborn. The 5 year old would climb back between the captains chairs and I would slide the seat with the infant base (installed with latch) forward on the tracks to help him buckle and then slide it back a bit and put the car seat in the base. Now that I have a 7/4/18m, my set up is: rotating seat rear facing behind the passenger, forward facing car seat in the drivers side of the third row, highback booster in the passenger side of the third row. Boosters are much easier to buckle in the third row as opposed to the second. It's also nice to keep an empty seat in the second row if we ever ride with a grandparent. Clearly a downside is not having as much trunk space as a full size SUV. The biggest miss that this car has is in the third row. The middle seat is so small it might as well not even be there. Also not having a tether anchor in all seating positions in the third row is a bummer. Some other nitpicky stuff is I wish that I could turn off the auto stop/start and it would stay that way instead of having to turn it off every drive. I also wish the carplay was wireless but I have one of those plug-in bluetooth converters and it's fine. I truly love this car for my family and our lifestyle!

Tech: Love the climate control KNOBS (instead of touch screen). Mildly dislike the rear climate control is done through the touch screen (optionally can sync to front controls and/or let rear passengers control it themselves) One dedicated plug for Apple CarPlay, wish it was wireless. Love the USB plugs integrated into the sides of front seats (for rear passenger use) but USBs are already becoming outdated. Design: Love the interior and exterior design. Bench seat! Love it because the majority of the time my 3rd row is laid down. Minor issues: I do have some peeling on steering will (will post pics) that happened fairly early in ownership. (1-2 years old) I personally think it’s from hand sanitizer during Covid. Car seats: Tough to install a car seat with seatbelt install in 2nd row middle due to seatbelt overlap.

The Limited trim level does not have wireless car play. Heated and cooled seats are amazing and I love the built-in sun shades in the back seat. I have the captain's chairs and they are really functional for two kids in car seats. I leave the third row down and have plenty of trunk space. I have taken it to the beach and split the third row and it fit multiple chairs, a small cooler and beach bags!

This car fit our family of four very comfortably. At the time our kids were both in Uppababy convertible car seats in the captains chairs. The drive was very smooth and comfortable as well as the calligraphy trim level gave a really nice luxury feel without the price tag.

My palisade has been such a good car for my family. 2 kids fit comfortably in the 2nd row with plenty of trunk space with the 3rd row down. We have gone on several road trips with a wonderfold wagon + luggage and gear & traveled comfortably. The driver and passenger experience are top notch. Love the tech, amenities, and driving features! It truly gives luxury vehicle without being a luxury brand! It has ceiling vents! It has 2 fantastic door cup holders per 2nd row door (love). We don’t have to use the third row often, but it does limit trunk space if you must ride with the 3rd row up. The 3rd row is comfortable (seat wise & amenity wise) but not spacious for an adult or tall child to ride in for an extended period of time. We have made several 8+ hour road trips and have never had reliability issues! Overall, we LOVE our palisade for 2 kids!

We LOVE our 2022 Palisade SEL. It has all the features I “needed” in a vehicle: bench seat, built in sun shades, ceiling vents, heated seats, Apple Car Play, adaptive cruise control, and AWD. It has a few extra features I didn’t think I would “need” in a vehicle but so happy to have: quiet mode, nature sounds, and extra compartment storage in the trunk. The second row bench seat fits our two large Chicco Fit360 rotating car seats very well. We typically don’t use our third row and it’s folded down 99% of the time. The only time we use it is when the car seats are not installed and we are only transporting adults. We have successfully fit 8 adults in it, but the third row is very tight with 3 adults back there. With the third row folded down, the trunk space is incredible and easily fits our double Bob stroller with room to spare. Overall, I would definitely recommend this vehicle to a family of 4!
