2023 Kia Telluride

Features We Love
  • Built-In Second Row Sunshades: An underrated but incredibly practical family feature — built-in sunshades help keep kids comfortable without needing suction-cup window shades everywhere.
  • Flexible Sliding Second Row: The second-row seats slide on tracks, allowing families to adjust legroom between rows and improve third-row access depending on who’s sitting where.
  • Ceiling Air Vents in All Rows: The Telluride does a great job with airflow throughout the cabin, including ceiling vents for second- and third-row passengers.

The Exterior

Exterior Updates

The 2023 Telluride gets:

  • A redesigned grille with a textured 3D radiator-style pattern
  • Updated front fascia styling
  • New taillight detailing
  • Blacked-out exterior trim
  • Raised roof rails for a sportier look
  • Exclusive 20-inch wheels on the X-Line

Kia also kept the fan-favorite Wolf Gray exterior color and added several new colors for 2023, including blue, green, and red options.

The X-Line has a more rugged appearance than the standard Telluride, while the X-Pro leans even further into off-road styling and capability.

First Row

Interior Design Feels Surprisingly Luxurious

One thing Kia continues to do incredibly well is interior design.

The materials throughout the cabin feel thoughtfully designed, and honestly, this Telluride starts to feel like a luxury SUV without the luxury price tag.

Massive Upgraded Screens

For 2023, the Telluride now features:

  • A 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster
  • A 12.3-inch infotainment display
  • A beautifully curved integrated screen setup

Everything feels clean, modern, and high-end.

One of the Best Heads-Up Displays I’ve Used

The upgraded heads-up display in the 2023 Telluride was genuinely impressive.

It shows:

  • Navigation directions
  • Blind spot warnings
  • Adaptive cruise control visuals
  • Lane-change assistance
  • Speed limit assistance

One of the coolest features is how the display visually represents surrounding vehicles in real time. It almost feels like augmented reality while driving.

The Telluride’s Highway Driving Assist system can also help with lane changes and automatically adjust your speed based on posted speed limits.

Family-Friendly Technology Features

Kia packed the Telluride with practical family tech, including:

Blind Spot Camera

This remains one of my favorite Telluride features.

When you activate your turn signal, a live camera feed appears directly in the gauge cluster showing your blind spot. It adds another layer of visibility that’s incredibly useful for busy family driving.

Digital Rearview Mirror

New for 2023, the Telluride now offers a camera-based rearview mirror.

This is a huge win for parents because car seats, passengers, and cargo can easily block visibility in traditional mirrors. With the digital mirror, you still get a perfectly clear view behind the vehicle.

Additional Features Families Will Love (Trim Specific)

  • Heated and ventilated front seats
  • Heated steering wheel
  • Faster wireless charging pad
  • Wi-Fi hotspot capability
  • 3D surround vehicle view
  • Harman Kardon sound system

Second Row

Second Row Comfort is Excellent

The Telluride continues to offer some of the best second-row legroom in the midsize SUV segment.

As someone who is nearly six feet tall and pregnant, I was genuinely comfortable in the second row even with the front seat adjusted generously.

Second-row amenities include:

  • Built-in sunshades
  • Ceiling vents
  • Climate controls
  • USB-C ports integrated into the seatbacks
  • Heated AND ventilated second-row seats

The ventilated second-row seats are especially impressive because that’s a feature usually reserved for luxury SUVs.

Bench Seat Availability

For 2023, the bench seat is only available on:

  • LX trim
  • EX trim

Personally, I’m usually very pro-bench seat because of the flexibility it offers families, but the Telluride’s bench is narrow enough that I actually prefer the captain’s chairs here.

If your primary goal is fitting three kids across regularly, the Telluride would not be my first recommendation.

There are lower anchors and tether anchors in both captains chairs so you can safely put two rear or forward facing car seats in the second row. In the third row there is one set of lower anchors on the driver’s side so you could put two rear-facing car seats back there either using the seat belts or one using the lower anchors. There are also 2 tether anchors in the third row, but, and this is a big but, the 2 tether anchors are next to each other and like I said before, the middle seat is super narrow so really there is only room for one forward facing car seat in the third row. This means you can fit at most 3 forward facing car seats in this car. Another thing to note, is this car does not have the car seat tilt so if you have the bench seat with rear facing car seats on either outboard seat there is no way to get to the third row. I have a Family Planning Map worksheet that helps walk you through all the car seat configurations of any car so you can better plan how a car will work for you and your growing family. I recommend it before any family buys a new car.

Third Row

To get to the third row of this Kia Telluride you have a few options. Either you can shimmy in between the captain chairs if there aren’t rear facing car seats in the way or you can press one of two buttons on the second row seats—either at the top of the seat or on the bottom, which is great so older kids can get in and out of the car by themselves at grade school drop off. The Telluride has one of the roomiest third rows and I could sit all the way back here for a long road trip and be comfortable. But 3 people cannot fit back here. The middle seat is basically nonexistent. It is 5.5” wide, which doesn’t fit anything. Can’t fit a human, can’t fit a car seat, can’t fit a booster seat. But, this is not to harp on Kia. I still think this is a great family car but want you to know this is a 6 passenger car—just ignore the middle seat in the third row.

Trunk

Mid size SUVs always disappoint when it comes to the trunk space, but the Kia Telluride does not. There is extra space in the floor that can be separated to throw in gear that you always want handy like blankets, diapers or wipes, or you can open it up to fit something larger. The Uppababy Vista stroller fits well even without the extra floor space. If you’re looking for more trunk space you’re going to either need a minivan or a larger SUV like the Expedition, Suburban or Wagoneer, which is going to give you about twice as much room.

Safety

The 2023 Kia Telluride is an IIHS Top Safety Pick+. It comes with an extensive standard safety with Kia's Drive Wise suite, including Forward Collision-Avoidance, Lane Keeping Assist, Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, and Smart Cruise Control with Stop & Go, plus optional features like Surround View Monitor and Blind Spot View Monitor on higher trims.

I really enjoy this car. I previously drove a Nissan Rogue and wanted something a little bigger, but I wasn't ready to step into the full sized SUV space. I love the look of the Telluride. I think it fits our two car seats in the second row really well and I have car seats with larger profiles. I enjoy the interior styling and I think it has pretty good tech. It has ceiling vents, sunshades, heated/cooled seats, heated steering wheel, and a sunglasses holder :)

This car has functioned great for us as we have grown into a family of 4. We almost always ride with the 3rd row down and we can fit our 60 lb labradoodle in the back with no issues. We haven’t had a problem choosing a car seat because of the spacious second row, and I can’t get over how good the second row amenities are! Sun shades and ceiling vents make this super comfortable for babies and toddlers alike. When we have rented or driven other cars temporarily, I quickly miss the amenities of my Kia Telluride. We add a cargo carrier on the top for extra space when taking longer trips, and this has worked great for us. We’ve only had 2 maintenance/repair issues in the 4.5 years we have owned the car, making it very reliable for us.

S-trim with Captain's Chairs. SUV has been great addition to our family for daily use (2 children in carseats occupy the captains chairs) and travel (third row is used for dog and/or adult passengers). For daily use the features are ample and meet expectations; although wireless Android Auto would be a plus! Third row access is infrequent but hard for adult passengers (but not impossible). Frequent recalls has been the greatest downside.

This car has been a workhorse for my family. We have two boys, 8 and 10. Their baseball bags and two chairs fit in the trunk with the third row which has been great. On roadtrips we do put the third row down and use all the space. If I had 3 kids it would be tight but for our family of four it works perfectly.

I really love this car for my two kids, having the third row down allows for a lot of trunk space. I love the look of the car inside and out, so many people comment on how nice the car looks. Having 3+ kids in this car would not be as convenient, if the third row is folded up for a passenger the trunk space is very limited and I have to take the wheels off of my double BOB stroller so it will fit. I have captains chairs in the middle row, but it’s hard to get to the third row even for a child & if I had a child in the back I have to buckle them through the trunk. No rear facing car seats fit in the third row & only one FF car seat can be used in the third row because of the lack of tether anchors. There is only one tether anchor and if you are using that you can only fold down one seat because the tether is in the seat that has two seats together. Overall I love this car for 2 kids, but would not recommend to someone with 3+ kids or for someone needing to use the 3rd row often. Can it work, yes. Would I choose it for 3+ kids, no.

Loved this car! 2nd and 3rd row felt a little tighter than the Palisade but the trunk was just slightly larger which was perfect! Loved the interior of the car.

I absolutely love my Kia telluride sx-pro. The safety features are top notch especially the blind spot cameras! The car is extremely kid friendly with second row space, ceiling vents, and usb-c outlets. The only negative that someone would run into is the third row only has one true tether for a rear facing car seat. Overall I always recommend my car for the comfort and space!

I am obsessed with my Kia Telluride (2023, SX trim) and over 3 years in, the feeling has not gone away. The ride is smooth and the car feels tall and not big. The interior is basically silent. The second row comfort is second to none; there’s tons of room for passengers of all sizes, great car seat clearance, and great amenities like ceiling vents and built in sunshades. There is plenty of storage in the trunk even with the 3rd row up. The third row leg room isn’t amazing but it meets the basic comfort and standards of a 3rd row and has ceiling vents. Definitely can’t put 2 people in the third row though! My absolute favorite is the technology and the ratio of screen to buttons; I also have wired Apple car play and my hot take is that I prefer it to wireless! You get better phone charge and it’s less glitchy. I would recommend this car whole heartedly to any moms of 1-2 or even 3 if your kids are out of car seats.

I love this car. It’s been incredibly spacious for our two growing kids, and the third row is actually comfortable. We’ve taken it on a lot of road trips, and it’s been a great family vehicle. We did have to replace both front seat covers because they started ripping, but that was covered under warranty. Around 50,000 miles, we also had to replace the brakes and fuel injectors after it started shaking and the check engine light kept coming on. Thankfully, those repairs were covered under warranty as well. I was honestly worried I’d need to get a new car, but since those repairs, it seems to be running great again.

As a mom of two young kids, my Kia Telluride has been one of the best purchases we've made. It's incredibly practical for everyday family life, with plenty of room for car seats, strollers, backpacks, groceries, and everything else that seems to come with little kids. The wide-opening doors make getting children in and out much easier, and the third row is actually usable when we need extra seats. I also appreciate all the safety features and how comfortable it is on both short errands and long road trips. It feels more like a luxury SUV than its price suggests, and even after owning it for a while, I'd absolutely choose it again because it makes the chaos of parenting just a little bit easier.

I love my Telluride and drive it daily. I have the captains chairs and it works well for us. I have 2 kids, both RF and there is still plenty of room for the driver and front seat passenger in terms of leg room. There is a large infotainment system touch screen but also knobs for all the important stuff (volume, air, etc.) which I prefer! The blindspot cameras are elite — I don’t know if I’d ever buy another car without them! The second row has built in sun shades & ceiling vents. There is plenty of trunk space with the 3rd row up and laying the seats down is super easy. It’s super comfortable to drive and has what my husband calls “giddy-up!” Overall it’s a winner in my book.
