2025 Hyundai Santa Fe

Features We Love
  • A Third Row with Real Car Seat Capability: This Santa Fe now has a third row with lower anchors AND tether anchors in both seats, which is a huge win. It’s not for everyday use, but it’s incredibly functional for occasional passengers or car seat setups.
  • Smart, Everyday Storage Everywhere: Hyundai nailed the little things—deep cup holders, under-console pass-through storage, hooks for bags, and tons of charging spots. These are the features moms actually use daily, and they’re all standard.
  • Flexible Cargo + Seating Setup: While you can’t use the third row and trunk space at the same time, the fold-flat third row gives you a really usable cargo area when you need it. It’s a great balance for families who only need that third row occasionally.
  • Standard Tech That Feels High-End: Even on the base trim, you’re getting a curved digital display, user-friendly infotainment, and physical buttons where you actually want them. It’s intuitive, easy to use, and one of the best setups in this price point.
Car Mom Review

The Exterior

First Impressions: Bold, Boxy… and Very Different

This Santa Fe is a total departure from Hyundai’s previous design language.

  • Boxy, squared-off shape
  • H-shaped headlights (yes, really)
  • Flat rear end that feels more utilitarian than sporty

It honestly looks like a mix between a Ford Flex and a Land Rover Defender—and whether you love it or hate it, it definitely stands out.

First Row

Interior: Shockingly Good (Especially for Base Trim)

I tested the base SE AWD trim (~$37K), and I was genuinely impressed with what Hyundai made standard.

Highlights:

  • Curved digital display + infotainment system (one of the best in the game)
  • Physical buttons for climate and volume
  • Deep, functional cup holders
  • Smart storage throughout—including a pass-through under the console

Everything feels intuitive, user-friendly, and practical, which is exactly what families need.

Second Row

Second Row: Functional, Spacious… But Not 3-Across Friendly

The second row feels very similar to the previous Santa Fe—spacious and comfortable.

You get:

  • Great legroom and headroom
  • Tons of storage (cup holders, hooks, charging, access to center console)
  • Vents positioned for better airflow to rear-facing kids

Car Seat Reality:

  • Great for 1–2 car seats
  • Not recommended for 3-across

Between a narrow middle seat and seat belt overlap issues, this is not a vehicle I’d buy with the intention of doing three-across.

Third Row

Third Row: Usable (But Not for Daily Life)

This is the biggest change for 2024—the Santa Fe now has a third row.

Here’s the reality:

  • Surprisingly good headroom (thanks to the boxy shape)
  • Comfortable for short trips or occasional use
  • Not ideal for daily passengers

Big win:
Both third-row seats have lower anchors AND tether anchors, which is best-in-class for car seat setup.

Trunk

Cargo Space: The Trade-Off

Here’s where you feel the impact of adding that third row.

  • With the third row up → very limited trunk space
  • With it folded down → great, usable cargo area

A full-size stroller will not fit with the third row up, so plan on using:

  • An umbrella stroller, or
  • Keeping the third row folded most of the time

Safety

The 2025 Hyundai Santa Fe is an IIHS Top Safety Pick+ and received 4/5 stars on overall safety from NHTSA.

This Calligraphy trim surprised us in the best way. It has been an excellent car for us for 3 years as a daily driver with 1 kid. It fit our criteria of a 2nd row bench, ample trunk space, and top tier safety and tech features at a reasonable price. We have used a Graco snug lock infant seat, and rear-facing Graco Slimfit3 lx, and Britax Poplar and all worked great. Love the heads up display, rear back up and top 360 cameras, but the real winner is the blind spot camera when changing lanes! The tech is a great balance of manual knobs/buttons for A/C, volume, etc with a nice screen for Apple CarPlay, and good sound that you can throw to 5 different positions in the car or out in quiet mode- perfect when we had a newborn. The heated seats in both rows and cooled seats in the front are perfect, as are built-in sunshades. If I’m being nitpicky, would love to see more rear A/C but it is cools off fine even in super hot/humid SC! The trunk is phenomenal - fits a full size stroller with bags and groceries etc with room to spare. This seats 4 adults and kiddo when needed for short trips. The middle person is cramped but it does fit a real adult, not a doll 😅, even with a car seat next to it. I’ve done long road trips in the back with just baby and it’s spacious with leg room, feels like a front seat with the recline and the heated seat option. We don’t buy our cars for styling but we like the interior camel and black leather seats. The only two oddball things on repairs: 1) the gas tank cover stopped opening and there is no access to manually pop it open- it’s apparently a known issue and was a faulty part that the dealer replaced. 2) The sunroof cover popped off its track and retracted into the roof. Took 1 month for them to fix. Otherwise all good so far!

LOVE the Santa Fe! Plenty of room for 2 rear facing car seats in the 2nd row and a ton of storage with the 3rd row down. If you have the 3rd row up, a mockingbird stroller still fits! The features and tech on this car really sold me and it’s worked great for our family.

We’ve been so happy with our Santa Fe for our family of 3 (+ a dog!) It’s spacious in leg room and trunk space for its class. Husband is 6’5” and had no issue with a rear facing car seat. No major work or maintenance needed. Good tech and amenities (sunshades, rear heated seats, etc). Love the blind spot camera!

It was perfect for just one kid! I didn’t realize how quickly we would go from 1-2 kids and now wanting #3 in the next couple of years. Second row is tight with two car seats back there! There’s no way we will be able to fit 3 across in car seats.
