First Impressions: Sporty, Fun, and a Little Unexpected
The Sorento X-Line brings a really fun, sporty vibe to the table.
- Blacked-out wheels and mirror caps
- Bold exterior lines
- Unique color options (this green is so good)
Kia really nailed the styling here—it feels fresh, modern, and definitely stands out in a parking lot.
And bonus: the Sorento is available as a hybrid, which is something I love to see. Kia has been ahead of the curve here compared to competitors who are still slow to add hybrids to family vehicles.
First Row
Interior: High-End Feel at a Mid-Range Price
Standout features:
- Fully digital curved display
- Two-tone steering wheel
- Heated + ventilated seats
- Wireless charging + multiple USB-C ports
- Surround view + 3D camera
It truly feels more expensive than it is.
A couple quirks:
- Climate controls share buttons with volume (a little clunky at first)
- Panoramic sunroof controls are not super intuitive
But overall, this interior is a huge win.
The Reality Check: This Is a SMALL 3-Row SUV
Before we go any further, let’s set expectations clearly:
The Sorento is similar in size to:
- Volkswagen Tiguan (with third row)
- Toyota Highlander (not Grand Highlander)
That means:
- Tight third row
- Limited trunk space
- Less room for car seats
And this is where families can get tripped up—it looks like a big SUV, but it doesn’t function like one.
Second Row
Second Row: Functional, But Not Extra Spacious
The second row does a lot right:
- Captain’s chairs (my recommendation over bench here)
- Built-in sunshades
- USB ports on seat backs (GENIUS placement)
- Heated seats on higher trims
BUT:
- No ceiling vents (tough for rear-facing kids)
- Space gets tight with car seats installed
Third Row
Third Row: Better for Kids Than Adults
Here’s the deal—I actually like that there are only two seats in the third row.
Why?
Because they’re actually usable.
- Decent width for booster seats
- USB-C ports + cupholders
- Enough space for kids
BUT:
- Very limited legroom
- No air vents (🚩 big issue in summer)
- Narrow aisle access
This is a kid-only third row for daily use.
Trunk
Trunk Space: The Biggest Limitation
With the third row up… it’s rough.
- Think: umbrella stroller max
- No real grocery haul space
If you need consistent trunk space and a third row up—this is not your car
Safety
Safety: Strong, with a Caveat
The Sorento comes loaded with advanced safety tech (which Kia does incredibly well).

Car Seat Setup: Surprisingly Strong (With One Big Catch)
Let’s talk car seats—because this is where things get interesting.
The Good:
- Every seat (2nd + 3rd row) has lower anchors + tether anchors
- That’s FOUR full sets—huge win for flexibility
- Booster seats fit well in the third row
The Not-So-Good:
- Rear-facing seats + tall drivers = tight squeeze
- Limited front-to-back space for infant seats
