Features We Love

The 2024 model continues the fourth-generation design before major changes expected for the 2025 model year.

  • Elite Car Seat Setup: This is one of the best car seat configurations in a full-size SUV. You get lower anchors and tether anchors in the second row (including the middle seat with the bench), plus two sets of lower anchors and three tether anchors in the third row. Not all competitors offer lower anchors back there, so this flexibility is huge for growing families.
  • Truly Spacious Third Row: The third row is actually adult-friendly. There’s real legroom, ceiling vents, USB ports on both sides, multiple cupholders, and even reclining seats. It doesn’t feel like a punishment to sit back there.
  • Massive Cargo & Storage Space: Even the regular wheelbase version offers impressive trunk space, and the Expedition Max adds 12 extra inches just to the cargo area. Power-folding seats, huge door cubbies, and an oversized center console make this a storage dream.

Car Mom Review

The Exterior

Exterior: Big, Muscular, and Confident

The Expedition has a classic, no-nonsense look. It’s muscular, a little sporty, and definitely more truck-inspired than your typical “mom SUV.”

  • Bold Ford grille
  • Strong, sharp beltline
  • Available power-deploying running boards
  • Chrome roof rails
  • Clean, simple rear design

It’s boxy — but that’s exactly how you get this much interior space. Nothing about it feels over-designed or flashy. It just looks strong.

Big, muscular and confident!

First Row

Driver’s Seat: Massive Storage & Some Honest Tech Feedback

Let’s start with the good.

  • Completely digital dash
  • Great visibility
  • Huge center console
  • Four cupholders within reach
  • Double glove box (my favorite mom hack)
  • Massive door cubbies

The center console is square, wide, and high enough to comfortably rest your arm during long drives. I’ve done Zoom meetings in there. I’ve eaten car lunches in there. It’s functional.

I am not a huge fan of the "iPad" style screen. I'd much prefer buttons and knobs!

The biggest frustration? Climate control being inside the screen. Adjusting temperature takes multiple taps, and when the screen glitches, you lose access to your air.

Second Row

Second Row: Team Bench Forever

This bench is chef’s kiss.

  • Massive legroom
  • Heated outboard seats (trim specific)
  • USB-A & USB-C
  • Ceiling vents (huge for rear-facing kids)
  • Separate seat tracks for each position

And because the seats move independently, I can tilt one side for third-row access without disrupting the others.

Captain’s chairs are cute — but bench flexibility wins for me.

Car Seat Set Up:

This is where the Expedition absolutely wins.

With the bench seat:

  • Lower anchors in all three second-row seats
  • Tether anchors in all three second-row seats
  • Lower anchors in both third-row outboard seats
  • Tether anchors across the third row

That’s five full sets of lower anchors and six tether anchors in an eight-passenger SUV.

It also features a car-seat-friendly tilt. If your seat is installed using LATCH, the seat can tilt and slide forward without uninstalling the car seat. That makes third-row access so much easier.

Rear-facing car seats? No problem. There is tons of clearance.

Third Row

Third Row: Truly Adult-Friendly

This is where the Expedition separates itself.

The third row:

  • Fits three passengers
  • Has real legroom
  • Includes ceiling vents
  • Has USB ports on both sides
  • Features multiple cupholders

And the seats recline.

Yes — recline.

Even with the second row pushed back, I still had room. With the second row moved forward slightly, I could comfortably sit back there as a full-size adult.

Trunk

Cargo Space: Regular vs Max

The Expedition comes in two sizes:

  • Regular
  • Expedition Max (12 inches longer — all added to cargo space)

Even the regular version impressed me. I was able to fit a stroller behind the third row. Fold the seats down (power-folding, by the way), and you’re looking at a massive cargo area.

You can even fold the second-row seats from the trunk.

Safety

The 2024 Ford Expedition comes standard with Ford Co-Pilot360 across all trim levels, which means you’re getting key safety features like automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, and lane-keeping assist right out of the gate.
