2026 Chevrolet Equinox EV
There are no major changes between the 2024-2026 Chevy Equinox EV.
The Equinox EV honestly surprised me in a lot of ways. It still feels approachable and family-friendly, but Chevy gave it a much more modern, high-end feel without pushing it into luxury SUV pricing.
- Middle head restraint is finally included: if you’ve watched my Chevy tours before, you know I always complain about this, so I was genuinely excited to finally see a middle head restraint in the second row.
- Lower anchors in both outboard seats: I like that both outboard seats have lower LATCH anchors because it keeps installs simple for families running two car seats.
- Three tether anchors across the bench: having tether anchors across all three seating positions gives families much more flexibility for forward-facing setups.
- Flexible buckles help with three-across setups: the flexible seat belt buckles make it much easier to maneuver around tight car seat installations.
- Second-row pretensioners add safety for older kids: I was very excited to hear the second row includes pretensioners on both outboard seats because that is still pretty uncommon.
- Massive screen feels high-end: the wraparound screen honestly feels more like something you’d find in a much more expensive SUV.
The Exterior
The Equinox EV looks completely different from the old Equinox, and honestly, I think Chevy did a really good job modernizing it without making it feel intimidating. It feels futuristic and sporty while still looking like something a family would actually want to drive every day.
The EV Design Gives Chevy More Room To Be Creative
One of the things I always find interesting about EVs is that they do not need the same large grille openings as gas-powered vehicles, so Chevy was able to do a lot more with the front-end styling here.
- Flush door handles feel surprisingly upscale: the handles sit flush with the body and pop open when you need them.
- Two-tone roof adds a sportier look: this model had the optional white roof paired with the Riptide Blue paint, which gave it a really fun sporty feel.
- Tail lights feel much more premium: I actually really liked the way Chevy designed the rear light bar and flowing turn signals.
- Optional 21-inch wheels change the look completely: this 3LT trim had the optional two-tone 21-inch wheels, while standard models come with 19-inch wheels.
First Row
The first row of the Equinox EV feels like a huge step forward for Chevy interiors. I kept thinking it felt more like an Escalade than an Equinox because everything feels so much more modern and high-end than older Chevy interiors.
The Wraparound Screen Completely Changes the Cabin
The giant wraparound screen is one of the first things you notice when you get inside. For a vehicle at this price point, I was honestly shocked by how premium it felt.
- Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Google Assistant are all built in: I like that Chevy kept all the important family tech features easy to access.
- The cameras are incredibly clear: I loved being able to zoom into different angles around the vehicle.
Chevy Finally Made the Interior Feel More Premium
I really liked the blue interior accents, the two-tone leather, and even the retro-inspired air vents. Chevy did a good job making the cabin feel more interesting without making it overly complicated.
- Pass-through storage adds extra functionality: I loved the open space underneath the center console for tossing a bag or smaller items.
- Wireless charging and USB-C ports are easy to reach: the whole center console setup felt very practical for families.
Built-In Route Planning Helps Ease EV Anxiety
I also liked that Chevy built route planning directly into the system so families can map charging stops ahead of longer drives. That feels especially helpful for people transitioning into EV ownership for the first time.
Second Row
The second row of the Equinox EV is honestly one of the biggest improvements over previous Equinox models. Between the added legroom, middle head restraint, flexible buckles, and wide bench seat, this feels much more family-focused from a car seat perspective.
Rear-Facing Car Seats Fit Much Better Behind Tall Drivers
I had the driver’s seat set for myself and still had a surprising amount of legroom in the second row. More second-row space gives families a lot more flexibility with larger rear-facing car seats and taller front-seat drivers.
- The wide bench helps with car seat flexibility: I liked that the middle seat stays wide instead of tapering inward like many compact SUVs.
- Flexible buckles make installs easier: the movable buckles help a lot when trying to maneuver around multiple car seats.
Lower Anchors and Three Tether Anchors Give Families More Flexibility
The Equinox EV includes lower LATCH anchors on both outboard seats along with tether anchors across all three rear seating positions.
- The middle head restraint finally makes the center seat more usable: I was genuinely excited to finally see Chevy include this because it makes that center position much safer and more practical.

Heated Rear Seats and Vents Make the Back Seat Feel More Comfortable
I also liked that the second row included rear vents, USB ports, and available heated seats because those features make a big difference for families spending a lot of time in the car.

The Cargo Area Looks Large Enough for Double Stroller Life
I could easily see this fitting a double stroller, groceries, Costco runs, or all the random things families end up carrying around daily. The hatch opening also feels wide enough to make loading larger items easier.
- 26.4 cubic feet behind the second row: that puts the Equinox EV close to the Ford Bronco Sport at 22.4 cubic feet and the Kia Seltos at 26.6 cubic feet.
- Less cargo room than the gas-powered Equinox: the gas model offers 29.9 cubic feet behind the second row.
- 54 cubic feet with the seats folded down: folding the second row opens up much more usable storage space for larger hauls.
I also liked the additional storage underneath the cargo floor along with the side cubbies because those little organization features make a big difference for family life.
Safety
Chevy Includes Crash Prevention Technology Across the Entire Equinox EV Lineup
I really appreciated that Chevy made the crash prevention technology standard instead of locking it behind higher trim levels.
Second-Row Pretensioners Add Safety for Rear Passengers
I was especially excited to hear that the second-row outboard seats include pretensioners because that is still pretty uncommon and adds another layer of protection for older kids and adults sitting back there.

If you’re considering the Chevy Equinox EV for your family, one thing I immediately noticed is how spacious the second row feels. I have this seat set for myself, and I still had a lot of legroom in the second row. More legroom gives families more flexibility with rear-facing car seats, especially with taller drivers up front.

The Bench Seat Setup Is a Huge Improvement
If you’ve watched my previous Chevy tours, you know I always get frustrated that they don’t include a middle head restraint. Chevy finally added one here, and I was genuinely excited to see it. We now have head restraints in all three seats across the second row.
I also really like how wide the bench seat feels. The middle seat is not cut off or indented, which can sometimes make car seat installations harder and make the seat less comfortable for passengers. The flexible buckles are also a huge plus if you’re trying to do any type of three-across setup because you can move them in and out of the way more easily during installation.
The Chevy Equinox EV Looks More Three-Across Friendly
As far as the car seat hardware setup goes, you’re getting lower anchors on both outboard seats and tether anchors across the bench. I also found out the second row has pretensioners on both outboard seats, which is a safety feature that’s usually found in the front row and not often in the second row.
